Kori’s Medicine Wheels - Oils
These
paintings are all OIL paintings, done in the round on canvas
stretched over convex wooden shapes, made to look like drums, and
are self-framed. I call them Medicine Wheels, after the old
traditional Medicine shields that were carried for protection.
Early settlers just didn’t understand these, they are to
represent our SPIRITUAL protection is before us and all around
us, as we view that whole thing, for us spiritual comes before
material, as we feel should be in all ways of life. The Medicine
Wheel is a Native symbol for the wheel of life. It is forever
evolving and bringing new lessons and meaning to the paths of our
walk in this life and shows us our connections to our Mother the
Earth. Our journey in this life has many directions and each must
be honored for us to have balance and joy. The Medicine Wheel
teaches us that all lessons are equal as are all talents and
abilities, as are all beings on this Earth. This balance of life
is a pathway to truth and peace and harmony. The circle is never
ending, life without end.
![]() Some of these
paintings are custom-done medicine wheels, and intuitive piece
that I am hired to do for people for themselves or as gifts. Some
are what I call ‘open’ medicine wheels, and are open
for sale for someone to buy, without any other intuition on my
part, then someone needs that image, and this painting has to
find it’s owner. So these await their owners to find them.
For the Personal Medicine wheels, when I am commissioned to do
these, I require a ½ hour to hour long interview with the
person the painting is for, or by the person who is giving the
gift. I always require ½ down of the total fee for the
painting, at the beginning, and then I receive the other ½
at the completion of the piece. ( I spend some time after the
interview meditating and am eventually ‘given’ a view
of what their wheel should look like, the animals that are
helping that person, etc. At that point, I call the individual
back and we talk, usually over the phone, and upon permission, I
actually then paint the painting. This process usually takes
anywhere from 3-5 wks.) I also have a list of many satisfied
customers for these pieces, and upon your asking, I will be most
happy to give you some of their names.
I always give
a write-up that goes with these wheels, explaining what I saw as
the relevance of this animal or part of Nature that has to do
with you. These paintings are unique wonderful gifts for
yourself, friends and family. And I find real joy in doing them.
They are actually my largest selling pieces.
Comments on Commissioned Personal Medicine Wheels:
Some of the
comments from owners of some of these wheels are as follows, and
pictures of examples of some done in the past:
“I
find the medicine wheel you made for me to be a source of wisdom
in my life that I can always go back to…I feel a kinship
with my totem animals; the deer and the butterfly. When I see
these animals in nature I watch them and try to learn from their
ways of being that were given them by the Creator.” - Molly
M.
“When
I find I am struggling or worrying about certain situations, I go
back to the lessons of the gentleness and love that the deer
teaches and the lessons of self-transformation that the butterfly
teaches. I am using the idea of being light and living in the
present… so I don’t get so focused on my own
dreams… that I lose the joy of the moment.” - Molly
M.
“My
medicine wheel is both a guide and an inspiration to me.
It’s a great mind/body connection-reminder…it reminds
me to seek the greater picture in my decisions. That has often
guided me to a better solution that the one I would have made
thinking only of my immediate problem… also when in a
comfused state, I’ve gone to the wheel to remember what
works in my life to lead me to a clearer mind.” - J. Coogan
“You
are spreading love through your spiritual artwork, Kori. I will
always treasure the Medicine wheel you have shared with
me.”
“Kori, this medicine wheel
doesn’t just benefit me, but I find the lessons I have
learned from it have helped others in one way or another.
It’s affirming to realize I have a deep connection to my
Creator through these animals and nature.”
“Dear
Kori, I wish to thank you for the Medicine Wheel (my wife gave me
for my birthday) Your interpretations were right on. You saw many
things that I already knew but had never told you. Your insights
have been helpful. You put the spirit of myself and this place
(his healing clinic) on canvas together. It tells the story of
the past and possible future. However, I use it to place me in
the present moment, to remind me of who and what I am, to connect
me with my spiritual self. Thank you.” - Roy A. Culver,
D.C.
“I
stumbled onto Kori Guy’s studio when I was out for a drive
and she was painting a huge medicine wheel…and asked if she
would paint one for my friend who had just bought a home, as a
blessing for his new home. We sat down and she proceeded to tell
me all about my friend without me saying a word. I was truly
touched and blown away. It was a very great experience! I picked
up the medicine wheel two weeks later. I gave it to my friend who
was also blown away by the painting and the writing that went
with it. This friend was actually a former boyfriend, a
relationship I was having troubles letting go of. Giving him the
painting was an important part of letting him go. A huge weight
was lifted… Thank you Kori Guy!” - Sincerely, Dianna

Ever since
Kori was a small child she always saw and felt the connections
that she and others have to the Earth, and all the beings of the
Earth. She also learned early to keep quiet about these things,
not wanting to appear different. Now she finds a joyful outlet
for these insights in these paintings she does for others. There
have been many medicine people, story-tellers and healers in her
family and background, and she give the credit to them, and does
these pieces carefully. (She also reserves the right to refuse to
do a painting for someone on the grounds of it not feeling right
for her. Please don’t take this personally if this should
happen to you. It is not meant as a judgment, but rather she is
aware of her own limitations, and if it is a piece she feels she
cannot do just them, she will kindly let you know.)
Ahe’ He’ (Thank you!) |
