Kori’s Pottery

Of all of Kori’s artwork, the pottery came first. Kori has been a pottery since the fall of 1967, when she was still in high school. One of her classmate/friends had a dad who taught it at Graceland College in Lamoni, Iowa. Probably she always played in the mud. But as soon as Mr. Wight set her to the potters wheel, the world went away, and there was just Kori and her clay. In college, three years later, it became her major, and she was allowed to be the student assistant for Mel Clark - Kauila Mel Clark ’68, and later he was to be the head Roshi at the Chozenji Daihonzan International Zen Temple in Hawaii. Mel and Kori developed the glazes that Kori uses today. Mel also encouraged her to follow her traditional ways, as no other at that point in her life could. Thanks Mel!

Kori uses the clay that is similar to her homeland Dinetah', Canyon DeChelly. All pottery is without lead in any of the glazes, and is oven, dishwasher and microwave safe (unless it has a stone or crystal in it). Kori tells the stories of her traditional ways through her pottery, and also does utilitarian pottery, such as dish sets, and is willing to do commissioned work if you wish to have a piece about a certain animal or event that she might not right now have on stock. Also, when you order dishes, you may choose from a wider variety of dish styles and colors. There are many unique side pieces that she has, or can recreate a piece from what you have seen elsewhere.

Whenever you buy a piece of Kori’s artwork you will also receive the story that goes with it. If you are purchasing a piece from the website, please understand that ALL pieces are hand thrown, and done, and are each unique, so may be some variance in each piece as the piece you see on line, but will be very close, and most unique. Dish sets are always fired in the same firing, and the artist keeps the card of your color choices and styles so that later you may order additional pieces and it will still match.

     Ahe’ He’ (Thank you!)
